I always press the return key by mistake, any way alternators wiring. previous owner rewired unit with house wiring, the wires one wire meets with all three windings in the alternator where dose this one go on the wiring diagram and the two other wires meet with two other joined up wires in the alternator,, are these the ramblings of a mad man do they makee any sens???? posted a new picture of my rebuild yesterday, must be all the paint fumes..   ahhhhhhh!!!!

Hi Rusty Nuts I bet they are rustier after today not sure what you mean I bet I have the wrong end of the stick . Light Green wire from Alternator to Rectifier, Green & Yellow to contact number 16 in PSR8 switch, Dark green splits become 2 wires one to rectifier, the other dark green wire to Contact number 7 of Light/Ignition switch. hope this is what you were asking.Woodie

thanks woodie. the colours I have dont match any thing apart from if your wiring a 13 amp plug, what I need is some idea of what connectors in the alternator should i be connecting to the coloured wires... if you go back to the basic windings on the alternator with no wires connected you have three coil windings together two coil windings together and one on its own. what colours match up to these.....

From memory and without taking my chaincase off, I think the cable colouring is as per wiring diagram i.e. as you look at the alternator the wire on left is light green, the centre is green/yellow and the right is dark green. May be better to wait for somebody else to confirm this.

The single coil goes to the ignition and in theory provides the power for the spark with a tiny amount more to top up the battery.
The other two go to the light switch and come into circuit to compensate for the power drain from the headlamp.
All 3 pairs of coils are identical so it is prudent to occasionally swap the ignition set for one of the lighting ones this evens out the "wear" and prevents the ignition ones burning out.

The wire attached to all the coils and the wire attached to one pair of coils go straight to the a/c inputs on the rectifier the wire attached to two pairs of coils wire goes to the headlight switch where it joins to the wire attached to the two coils when the headlamp is turned on. Much of the rest of the switching was to stop the battery going flat when it was left for some days ,modern rectifiers are much better so it is not necessary . If you exchange the wires from one pair of coils with the wire attached to two pairs of coils your charging rate will be higher when lights are not used but on a long journey you might have to turn on the lights to stop the battery boiling.
