I have just realised the barrel and head on my spare motor has different finning to the motor in my bike. I have studieds the many pictures I have, and both types are shown. Is one any earlier style ? I think I must be getting a bit pin pricking now, but it would be nice to know why the change. cheers John K.

Hi John.
The head and barrel with the sloping head was for the 39 season. for 40 they increased the cooling. hence the bigger fins and the cut out up the side of the barrel. The early one is correct for KC10. the other is for WC10 although there may have been an overlap. Ron

Hi John,
I believe the difference is the older heads were iron and later on they used aluminium to improve the cooling.

Owen, these early heads were all iron. They needed the ally to make Spitfires ( and thats not the BSA version) Ron

Hi Ron,
Sorry not paying attention, when i was trawiling throught the parts books for my C10 restoration i only noticed the two types iron/alloy.
does this mean my C10 (53) is part Spitfire, i did notice the strange look when i wized pased the police car the other day, they could not believe there eyes (OK the police car was stationary at the time).
