C10L Front and rear Brake Linings Sizes/Radius Pse?
« on: April 17, 2019, 02:29:51 pm »
Happy Easter,

Can I use Bantam linings/shoes, if so which models, for my C10L?

What are the radii of the rear and front brake shoes? I am guessing 6" for the rear?

Many Thanks

Think Bantam shoes are the same on the C10L, have a look on Draganfly's web site, may give you confirmation, I have a thing in my head that says D3 but I am probably wrong.

Your front and rear hubs are the same size at nominally 5 and 1/2 inches.

All C10L bikes ( 54/55 and the slightly different 56) use 90-5850 on the front.  This is the same as the Competition Bantam and the same as the 1954 C11G.  Other C11G bike shoes may not apply.

All C10L bikes use 90-5520 on the rear.  This is the same as the front shoe on the 125 and 150cc Bantam ( not Competition Bantam though) and the same as the rear shoe on most early sprung and rigid Bantams.

If you look for D1 and D3 brakes you should easily find the right parts for the rear.   You'll have to look carefully for the front shoes as it seems the models they fitted were low in production. Only a few years.

If you can't find complete serviceable shoes, then get worn shoes and have them fitted with new linings.

Don't expect brake performance to be spectacular which ever way you go....
Ginge.

BSA C10L, C11G & C12 (Ohv) parts books show the part numbers for the C10L front shoes as 29-5850 1954-56 and not 90-5850.

I have used Martyn Bratby very helpful. He's not got a website but if you send him your old brake shoes he Will send a relined set to you.

There's a place in Norwich, on an industrial area just off Mile Cross Lane on the Ring Road, who'll reline bike shoes. They're old-established brake specialists, doing mostly commercial stuff, trucks and the like, but they know about bikes and are very sympathetic in their pricing structure to us poverty-stricken motorcyclists.

I can't remember their name, just where their place is behind those big car showrooms that are opposite Vulcan Road South, but I can look it up if anyone local needs their details. You'll need to PM me.

Charles Johnson Ltd. ?

or

or

Villiers Services

The reason I recommended Martin Bratby was because he supplied me with complete shoes as I didn't have any to re-line.
