C10L Wiring Diag Wanted + BatteryProb
« on: October 09, 2019, 06:25:32 pm »
Hi..very much looking for a C10L 1955 Wiring diagram.

My bike is quite original hand still has the gigantic pancake  rectifier(?) under the seat.

However I don't know how the previous owner wired this.  the battery gets hot and drains in minutes...the rectifier also. Yet the bike starts  and runs fine!

Baffled

Hi Peter,
Those old rectifiers are well past their best after all these years and more than likely it has gone faulty

Information on the Wipac system here

If you want to keep it original looking then fit a modern rectifier inside the headlamp and put dummy wires to the original rectifier.
As John has already mentioned, even if they were sitting on a shelf unused the selenium rectifiers would be well past their use by date by now.
A rectifier that id dead open circuit will pump AC into the battery and destroy it in a very short time.
The bike will run on AC up to about 1/3 revs but it will burn the points.
latter models actually used this as an emergency start facility so the engine can be started when the battery is dead flat

Thanks very much for this info...now looking at the C10L 1955 diagram in the service sheets section, so I take it that this is a positive earth system on that year?????
