Hi, New to classic bikes both my C11 and C11g they both run great, I first pull the clutch lever in a couple of times,  but some times when you try and  kick start them the kick start just seems to go to the end of it's run but with no compression, I then take the spark plug out give them a few kicks put it back it then they kick start great till the next time, is the clutch sticking and the best way to stop this happening in future thanks for any feed back, Kevin 64 yrs old man.

SOUNDS LIKE THE CLUTCH IS SLIPPING A LITTLE - OR YOUR BIKE(S) COULD BE "WET SUMPING" THAT IS TO SAY THE OIL FROM THE TANK IS SEEPING INTO THE ENGINE WHILE THE BIKE(S) IS STOOD WHERE IT SETTLES  IN THE BOTTOM OF THE CRANKCASE AND CREATES LOTS OF EXTRA DRAG MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO TURN OVER ON THE KICKSTART
YOU WILL FIND A SMALL DRAIN PLUG IN THE BOTTOM OF THE CRANKCASE - IT MAY BE AN IDEA TO REMOVE THAT AND DRAIN THE EXCESS OIL OUT BEFORE YOU ATTEMPT TO START THE ENGINE - JUST POUR IT BACK INTO THE TANK AND DONT FORGET TO REPLACE THE PLUG ;)
OR JUST TIGHTEN THE CLUTCH UP A BIT :o

I'd put money on it being just the clutch plates oiled up, Kevin, - a common problem if it's been standing a while.

You just need to pull the clutch apart, wash the clutch plates in petrol or kerosene, dry them and put it together again. Test it out on the kick start before you replace the casing in case the springs want tightening up another turn or so.

If you want advice on this very simple job, just hunt back through recent posts and all will be revealed!

Thanks Ian and Ray for your reply's will clean the clutch plates next weekend, as at a show this weekend, one of the bikes always wet sumps, so have now bought a new alloy sump plate with a magnetic plug,.
