C11 4 speed Kickstart cotter pin stuck
« on: September 15, 2020, 10:53:31 am »
Hi all
i am dismantling my C11 slowly but surely, before changing all the different gaskets & replacing what need to replace.. one of the part I'd like to replace is the kickstart..I could remove the bolt but the cotter pin is stuck and I can't seem to remove it, therefore not changing the kickstart pedal..
Any tips on how to unblock the cotter pin?

thanks

If the gearbox is off the bike. Support a socket to for over the non nut end and give the thread end (with a loose nut on a whack or two. If it's on the bike get some pump pliers and place one jaw on the thread end and the other on the opposite side of the kick start. Squeeze the pliers together and hit the thread end. Butchery at its best.  :o

Always used to use a suitable punch on pushbike cotters, especially if they were going to be replaced.
Hmm...cottered cranks on pushbikes...showing my age there..

From the non thread end start with an 1/8th drill and drill up the pin increasing drill bit sizes gradually ,when your left with the shell of the cotter pin it will tap out easy .
