Keeping the balance of the herd seems to be universal.  Not prosecco for the wife but good NZ whites.
Question?
How much oil should there be un primary, if any?

Up to the level plug is the best amount. If you don't have a level plug 7 fluid ozs or 207 ml approx (maybe a little less if the clutch slips)

Well stripped, cleaned and rebuilt rear wheel over the last couple of days. Not sure if it had thick oil or thin grease in the bearings.  Whilst I was at it I fitted new brake shoes and rear tyre.  That's all Pete will allow me to do as I promised not to do any exterior renovations

You better hadn't. It's far too nice to spoil with new paint and chrome.
